I am looking for "medium" grade polarizers, say between Polaroid sheets
and nice calcite Glan Thompson prisms and I won't be using high power
lasers. Anything say around $100? For the money one spends on a
Newport Polarcar or a polarizing beam splitter, one may as well buy a
GT prism ...

Depending on wavelength and other considerations you might consider
Polacor by corning.

I'm guessing that a) this is for visible light since you mention polaroid
sheets and b) the aperture that you need is less than 10mm, since you
mention both polarcor and GT prisms...

If that is correct, there are sources of polarizing beamsplitter cubes other
than Newport or CVI that are not really that far out of your price range -
Edmund's are around $150-175 for a 15x15 size and are not much more for
25x25. Melles Griot surprisingly has very good prices on some of them : a
10x10 632 nm cube is only $110 (PN 03 PBS 043). I've bought several of
their 780 flavor for a fraction of the cost at other places and they work
just fine.
