 | This link is being offered over in the rec.aviation.piloting. It shows a laser scanning across the cockpit of a jet.

My question is, is it a real photo? It shows the laser scanning a line across the cockpit window and continuing on above the airplane. Do these lasers scan as a line or as a point? Is the photo bogus or doctored? Its link is from CBS, so one has reason to wonder, I suppose.

 | Don't believe everything (or anything) you see or hear from the news media. This photograph is obviously fake. It's not even a good fake.

As others have noted, it's a fake.
This was probably done by takeing two images, one of the airplane, and another of green laser. The laser image was then layered over the plane in a program like Photoshop using a blend mode.
I think it's meant as just an icon for the story. Just like the icons on the evening news video composited over the shoulder of the talking head. They're not meant to represent reality.

I'd say it's completely bogus. It shows the beam wrapping around the fuselage.

 | It's clearly and obviously fake, no question about it.

Poor artist's rendition.
