 | SIGN OUR DECLARATION TODAY For 80 years the League Against Cruel Sports has campaigned against bloodsports in a democratic, lawful and peaceful way. Now that Parliament is banning hunting with dogs, the pro-hunters wish to defy the will of the people. The hunters are threatening the Government, engaging in intimidation and violence against their opponents - including MPs - and are now promising disruption throughout the country. They have declared war on our democratic process.
On 15 September 2004, the Hunting Bill returned to the House of Commons. Outside the Commons, a Countryside Alliance protest descended into mob violence. http://www.guardian.co.uk/leaders/story/0,,1305478,00.html Inside, five hunt supporters invaded the Chamber of the House of Commons. Despite the disruptions, MPs once again voted overwhelmingly to ban the cruelty of hunting with dogs. The next day a Guardian editorial made it clear that the will of the elected house must prevail.
A leaked http://observer.guardian.co.uk/politics/story/0,6903,1312958,00.html memo obtained by the League Against Cruel Sports and passed on to the press revealed the satisfaction of the hunting fraternity who thought they'd "got away with" the violence in Parliament Square.
Although hunters have used threats and intimidation against their opponents in rural communities across the country for many years, what the nation saw on September 15th finally exposed the thuggish behaviour of these supposedly law-abiding citizens. Since then, more threats have been unveiled and anti-hunt MPs dogged and assaulted. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3960279.stm
What can we do? Continue to oppose them in a peaceful and law abiding way Campaign even harder to make sure the ban goes through The League promises to continue campaigning to end hunting with dogs until we win
