 | Hi Folks,
It's a while since I've been here, but I hope someone can help with some birds I've seen recently.
All photos taken in the last few weeks in and around Cumbernauld.
Apology for the quality of photos 4 & 5. Camera didn't want to focus for some reason.
Duck 1 & 2 was close to a group of mallards, but wasn't exactly one of the group.
Duck 3 I'm guessing is an escapee.
Hawk 4 & 5 - I didn't have my glasses on, and when I saw it I originally guessed it was the resisdent sparrowhawk feeding on the finches again. But even though the picture quality is woeful, it looks more like a merlin to me - but I ain't never seen a merlin around here before.
Thanks for your help.

First winter Ruddy Duck.

It's a domestic version of the Mallard. Pure white ones like this are often termed Call Ducks, because they were used in traditional duck decoys as a way of attracting (calling) wild ducks on to the pond and then into the catching pipes.
