I doubt it. They just descend to personal abuse when they come across
opinions they don't like, or arguments they can't refute. They are
symptomatic of what's wrong with some of these ngs.

Are you sure you have your facts correct? I have *never* noticed any of the
three you specifically mentioned descending to personal abuse.

I have re-read all posts by the three in this thread and if you consider any
of those posts to be "personal abuse" you are very sensitive and have a very
thin skin. Your accusing them of resorting to personal abuse is much
stronger than any of the opinions of you they have expressed. In
particular, Oz did not suggest you were a bigot. He did say:

"One function of a working democracy is to allow freedom for minorities
within it, where what they do does not affect others.

Otherwise you end up with a bigoted tyranny."

and

"Ah, I see, no minorities allowed, bigots rule.

I guess that would suit you."

Neither of those quotes suggests you are a bigot. The second quote does
suggest you might be happy to have bigots ruling, but that is a long way
from suggesting you yourself are a bigot.

I can find nothing from Mary or Christine suggesting you are a fool or a
liar.

I am beginning to form the impression that you either do not read posts
properly or you invent to provide a response suitable for your needs.

Sorry about that, I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

I have *never* posted personal abuse to anyone. Sometimes I disagree with
what they say, but it's not abuse to not agree, surely. Just another
opinion.
Now, I'd definitely have an excuse to abuse Rooney, as he once suggested
that I was a prostitute, (and I'll never forgive him for that) which is
ridiculous. I've refrained from abusing him, but claim the right to
disagree with his views.
Paul seems to have too much to say when he is drunk. Without thinking of
the offense he causes.

Oooh. Not so. I remember very clearly that you said something like "was it
you behind the bus shelter in Catherine Street?" I can't be bothered to
google for it, but it will be there. I haven't, and never will forgive you
for this.
It's so unnecessary in a birding group.

Nor is demon.local.
It's a truth-seekers group. We are used to abuse - see the FAQ - but
we don't much care for dodgy argument and irrationalism. Many of us
retain vast archives - including things that Google doesn't archive.

That place is a hotbed of Mabbettry and unnatural practices. But there
is hope: if we can clean up demon.local, albeit over some years, we
could do the same for the conservation ng.

Oz:
Ah, I see, no minorities allowed, bigots rule.
I guess that would suit you.

Mary:
Not really offensive, just silly and worth bothering with. It
discredits
everything he does say.

Christine:
Just like you said once you had horses, and needed
a speech-to-text reader. Yeah.
