£41M ON ELECTRICITY Jan 21 2005

WHITEHALL has run up a £41million electricity bill for the taxpayer.

The sum was racked up by 12 government departments last year.

The Home Office had the biggest bill - £16.5million.

Only four departments cut costs - the deputy PM's office, environment,
culture and trade and industry.

The news comes after pictures were published showing government offices with
the lights on all night.

That would be the electric chairs they will be rolling out to curb 24-hour
binge drinking.
