The patient English
HOW patient the English have been. How downtrodden and marginalised we are becoming in our country. Anyone who is fed up with being called names such as Little Englander, Europhile, racist, or snob knows what I am talking about. These are just playground names designed to silence the majority.
There are groups out there who are fighting for the right to be just called English and to be allowed to say so on official forms. They are fighting for fairness and equality, to give us the same rights as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The English are the only people to pay more into the tax coffers than they take out and yet we ask no more than equality: the right to govern ourselves as our neighbours do. We ask for an English parliament, in line with Scotland, and for the people of England to be recognised as English. To not have Scottish MPs pushing through legislation for the English, which they have rejected for their own people. An English pensioner is worth less, under this government, than their Scottish counterpart, who gets free residential care and much more. Only English students pay through the nose for their education. English includes all those who live in England, as all are affected.
John Prescott said: "There is no such nationality as English." He was born in Wales. I disagree with him. This government has worked hard to stamp on our English heritage, our cities, towns and villages .
Look for the English equivalent of BBC Scotland and Wales. Look for the English equivalent of the Scottish or Welsh Tourist Board or even with the simple Keep Scotland/Wales Tidy. There are many more examples of England being airbrushed out of the UK.
April 23 is St George's Day, the English patron saint. On this day, many people will be visiting Westminster to celebrate all things English. Anyone who loves their country and wants to show it is invited. Show the government we are not down and out just yet. And name-calling does not frighten us.

Frae Auld Bob Peffers: I see we have the blinkered Sudo-English lunatic fringe back again. Just because we Scots adopted Henderson as a pet Troll is not an excuse for these loonies to stick their noses in. Was not this, "Rifleman", gadgie actually found to be an Irishman who had served some time with an English regiment. A latrine digger or something? Anyway, recent events give the lie to the idiots claims. Alex Salmond has just publicised government plans to impose a sliding tax levy on renewable electricity generating units when they connect to the National Grid. This scale is highest in the Scottish Highlands & Islands and it gets smaller as you head south until, in London it becomes a subsidy. Considering Scotland is a net exporter of Electricity and England a net Importer anyone can see this more that the usual subsidy to London as it also imposes an increasing tax as the producers become more distant from London. Not only that but Scotland's renewable generating capacity is already far greater than England's but the chances of renewable generating plant in London is rather small while Scotland has much remaining spare capacity. --

Judging by certain English posters in these groups there is a very good source of the raw materials to generate that gas from. The Thames connection in the plan was for that river to be the method of disposing of the residue after it had been treated in treatment beds. The alternative, still being studied, is for that residue to be first treated, then dried and burned in a rebuilt Battersea Power station. --

You do have to ask what they hope to achieve. Do they think we're going to go "Oh, you're so right, here have your own Parliament. Ooops, we can't do that without the English agreeing!!!!".

Dear oh dear, the fantasy world of Scotchland. The industrial revolution - which began in England in the late seventeenth century if not before - was an English event which was then copied by Scotland and other countries.
As for the eventual Scotch contribution, this was largely the result of Scotchmen coming to England and being properly supervised by England. James Watt is a classic example. Had not Matt Boulton - the PT Barnum of the Industrial Revolution - not brought him to England, funded him, provided him with technical help, made many suggestions which Watt then claimed as his own and generally screwed Watt's feeble courage to the sticking point, Watt would never have completed his work on a separate condenser - his other major achievement, rotary motion, was being worked on by English engineers and would have come about anyway.
Watt had the classic Scotch personality, he being a whining, cowardly paranoid hypochondriac, forever thinking he was about to be ruined and incessantly claiming that he had invented things which others had invented.
The proper posture of a Scotchman towards the English is that of Boswell. RH -- Robert Henderson philip@anywhere.demon.co.uk Blair Scandal web site at http://www.geocities.com/blairscandal/ Personal web site at http://www.anywhere.demon.co.uk

Aye Rab - yon Scots are always claiming they invented things which others had invented.
Why only the other day I was reading the Scot who invented the cash dispenser, and received an Honour in the New Years Honours List for his troubles, may not have invented it at all.
Someone else now claims to have invented it and he was .........oh hang on .....he was Scottish too.
Disregard.

Isn't it wonderful! Very few countries have the decency to pay reparations for their brutal behaviour in the past.
Sadly, it's about time they started to look at reparations for their brutal behaviour in the present. All those murdered football fans.

Anyway, it is obvious you have little knowledge of actual history. The Auld Scottish Makkars, (if your limited intelligence knows what these were), brought about the Scottish enlightenment and were in the vanguard of the European Enlightenment. It is a historical fact that Scotland had the First Education Act in the World that made it compulsory for every child to be educated. Further to that Scotland had five universities when England had but two. All of which proves that your perceived oxymoron is imagination on your part and far from showing the Scots and culture as an oxymoron it exposes you as just a plain and simple, (very simple), moron. --

And how do they do that when the entire UK is in fiscal deficit - i.e. they are claiming public borrowing and revenue from the Extra-Regio as "English" when it is not.
After all Ed Balls admitted they were relying in North Sea tax receipts to keep the deficit down.
Receipts which aren't English.

No, refugees. The recent book about the *nglish in Scotland showed one of their primary motives was escaping a rat race culture. Many even see themselves as Scots now.
