Can this possibly be really secure? It is a little pricey but it sure
would be handy if it is!

I fail to see how it could be secure.

Of course it could. VPN, encrypted, whatever. It's just as secure as
leaving your computer on and connected to the Internet at any other time.

But they don't say anything about any special requirements on the remote end,
and if THAT isn't secure, the security at the other end doesn't matter a bit.

That's because any browser that supports 128-bit encryption will be good to
go. It's going to be just as secure as a credit card SSL submission.

Yeah, that was my take on it too. I'm using a wireless modem/router for
my LAN and sharing the internet connection... I don't see how that can
be totally secure either, it's hard for this old dog to learn new
tricks. Well, as handy as it looked the price of gotomypc is ridiculous
anyway.

Try this. I use it on two of my remote server boxes and it's never failed
me. One time fee of $35. Very secure.

However, you have to carry the Viewer program with you on floppy and
install it locally or have it pre-intalled on your laptop -- it's not
available as a web-based service.

Hey this sucker works really spiffy... I downloaded the 30 day trial
and am using the Hamster/Xnews programs on my server from my laptop
right now. Thanks for the pointer!

Not only does it do Remote Control, it also does file transfers and console
stuff. What's always amazed me is how fast it seems over dialup. Even on
dialup, it "feels" almost as fast as running a MS Remote Terminal session
off of broadband.
