Last night I headed into Pacific Beach to catch a band I knew ofm but
hadn't been able to see in teh past couple of years. While waiting for
them to start their late set, I happened across this place, although it
was well after 9 pm. At that hour, they have a mobile cart hooked up and
the main doggery is closed.

It is at 1142 Grand and just west of the Tiki.

They feature Grote & Weigle dogs (since 1890) from Bloomfield, CT. At
the hour I was there, you had kraut, relish and chili (uses a few black
beans) as the main variations. I opted for the chili-cheese and was not
disappointed. The bun was not the typical white bread one, but looked
like some kind of whole wheat (did not ask). They also show Polish and
brats on the menu and burgers. Chili Cheese with canned soft drink came
in at $4.

As far as the dogs go, I owuld place them behind Vienna Beef and
narrowly behind Hebrew National. These are very good hot dogs and
certainly, to my tastes, would steamroller any NY dog I have had into
the pavement of hotdog history.
