 | Well, it is a two-week down time, after all.
Following up on the rubric that you can't get a food review capsul in the Reader nless you advertise, a quick scan of the Dec 16 issue showed 70 display ads and 75 capsuls (after deleting caps from Baja and Far East). So far looks like the charge may have some merit.
Then I started checking the display ads versus the caps in the paper (realizing that not all caps appear in every issue). After deleting two display ads (wine bars so no restaurant caps)we're at now at 67 display/75 caps.
So far, I have gone through the first 33 (not quite half of the) display ads and it looks like this:
Both: 3 Display only: 29
I set this aside for the interim and scanned the Dec 23 issue and after making the same deletions as above and for the special Christmas/New Year' dining ads that only appear at holiday time, started over. Looks much the same here too.
So, I'm going to shelve this until after the holidays then check the display ads against the online listing of all the caps (deleting the same categories) and see what comes up with a 100% check.
Anyone want to bet on the outcome:
To have a capsul (all former reviews) or review, you have to advertise...
____ You betcha!
____ Maybe (forget this straddling the fence position, take a stand!)
____ Nah, they need to fill the space with editorial to balance the ads

well, the stats say you are wrong as far as the physical publication goes. BTW, the Reader has 247 caps online. Haven't separated out Far East and Baja to get the final number, but that ups the probablility of this happening.
But as far as the publication. WRONG! I've ruled out the simple proof by elimiinating the Far East and Baja - none of which advertise. But that is the exception to your position.
