 | OK, I know, I know: no one reads Naomi Wise. So, even taking her review for less than the grain of salt it is worth, has anyone tried the places she reviewed in today's Reader:
Lightnin' Jacks BBQ - Clairemont Square by the movie theaters. Stickee Fingers Barbeque Smokehouse - 1404 Garnet (at Gresham)
[Interesting comment about Stickee Fingers in her review about them changing the spelling of their name, I suspect it was because there's a fairly large Sticky Fingers BBQ chain in the SouthEast...]
She also mentions in passing:
Big Jim's in Encinitas - we've talked about this one before, it's OK but not worth a special trip to me. Barnes BBQ in Lemon Grove - don't remember anyone here mentioning this. Mike

 | Tried Lightnin Jack's BBQ for lunch today. They had a Rib Tip special for $7, and it was quite a deal: A big pile of rib tips and a generous helping of seasoned steak fries and a large soft drink. Neither my friend nor I could finish the plate. The rib tips were quite good, tender and smokey flavored. Their BBQ sauce is OK, it has a good vinegar/ sugar balance, though it is very mild, and there are no options for spicier.
Based on this experience, it's definitely a place worth trying. It's definitely better than the BBQ place that was briefly in the Diane shopping center a couple of years ago (and talked about here).

Try their pulled pork -- it's really good. Seems to me I asked for some hot sauce and got it.

 | Never been to Huffman's. After Henry's less-than-glowing review some years back, I never put it on my list of places to try... Maybe if Henry visits this new place, he can comment...

Take any review with a grain of salt. No one is infallible when it comes to taste.
If you were thinking about a place and had an expectation for what it would be like (sans food) and it did not live up to that, your review could be very different than had it.
I've enjoyed Huffman's a time or two.
So, one negative and three positive reviews. Your turn.

Huffman's is a great Bar-b-que place in my opinion. They also have the neighborhood atmosphere that I like when I go to a Bar-b-que joint. You should try it. -- Paul Broadway www.broadwaypub.com San Diego, Ca.

Is it as good as Brooke Huffman's place on Imperial Avenue? -- Paul Broadway www.broadwaypub.com San Diego, Ca.
