Speaking (or not... ;-) of New York style pizza in SD, has anyone tried
Bongiornos in Solana Beach? From the map, it looks like it's in Eden
Gardens. A couple of people (who I have no idea how foodie-oriented
they are) have said this was the best NY-style pizza outside of NYC they'd
ever had (yeah, yeah, I'm skeptical too...). Is it worth making a special
trip to Solana Beach?

Slightly smaller than Bronx (or Del Mar Pizza used to make), IIRC. I
think
they were 1/8 rather than 1/6 slices. About 1/2 the size of a Costco
slice.

Just tried it for lunch today. A pretty good NY-style pizza, maybe not
quite as good as Bronx, but definitely worth a try if you're around Del
Mar/Solana Beach/Encinitas. Location is much closer to Lomas Santa Fe
than Mapquest shows. Service is friendly, about ten slice choices,
fairly inexpensive ($6 for two slices and a soft drink), some outdoor
seating. They advertise Boars Head meats for their sandwiches too...

not even a bike-riding buddies cousin (as if I rode a bike anyway...

Are they decent size slices?

Slices are decent size but they have to re-heat in oven for about 1 minute
to make hot. This degrades the quality, IMO.

But that's pretty much standard practice at all places that serve
slices, even in NYC.
