I found this in an arthritis group. Groups in hundreds of cities.
From the main site http://www.freecycle.org you can select
"West Coast" then San Diego.

sdfreecycle San Diego Freecycle

Description Category: Cultures Community

In San Diego the concept of Freecycling is simple. You
have something you no longer need (a couch, a crib, a
computer) and you wish to "recycle" it rather than throw
it in the landfill. Or you're looking for a specific
item (a couch, a crib, a computer), and you'd love to
get it for free. San Diego Freecycle is the place you
can post notices about items you'd like to give away and
items you'd like to find. The only requirement is that
the transfer of an item from one person to another has
to be FREE and hopefully (but not limited to) something
that doesn't have other recycling possibilities.

With San Diego Freecycle we can help the environment by
diverting useful items from landfills while also helping
members of our local community. Everyone has something
they want to get rid of, so instead of dragging it out
to the curb and filling the landfills, wouldn't it be
better to connect to someone who may want what you have?

All individuals and charitable organizations in the
region are welcome to participate.

Our main geographic focus is San Diego County. More
general information about FreeCycling and locations of
groups worldwide can be found at: www.freecycle.org

We do have a few guidelines you must follow in order to
participate in the group (you'll receive those in an
email message when you join). Be sure to read those
before posting your first message. A quick search of the
message archives will give you an idea of recent items
offered/wanted and the type of ads accepted.

This group can either be read online at this website
(click on 'Messages' to the left) or delivered as email
messsages, or both.

Send any questions to: sdfreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com

Welcome to the group and now LET's FREECYCLE!

Unfortunately, one of those "guidelines", at least at the time I was last a
participant, was a blanket ban on signatures. Regardless of content, length,
etc. Somehow the few bytes used by an ASCII sig are a problems while the
many K used by HTML-format email, etc. are not. (Yes, bandwidth concerns are
the reason I was given by the moderator.) I choose not to play in her
sandbox.

On that day, many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in
your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works
in your name?" And then will I declare to them, "I never knew you;
depart from me you evildoers." -- Matt 7:20-23, RSV

We have been using a similar system for many years. When we have something
that we no longer need but seems like it might be of use to someone else, we
just put it on the curb with a "free" sign.

Hasn't missed yet...
