Oddly, those who are most steeped in unquestioned faith feel the
same way. I actually saw a quote from one of these people saying
something like "Why should *I* be tolerant of other beliefs?
Showing tolerance is the same as admitting I'm wrong!"

This is perfectly logical to the believer. Nowhere in the Bible is
one taught to respect or even to be tolerant of other religions.

This is perfectly reasonable. If you were in a third-world country trying to
clean up an infected water supply, your faith in the germ theory of disease
would not permit you to be tolerant of the witch doctor who insisted that
exorcism was the only way to solve the problem.
Ah, you say, but the germ theory has been proven beyond doubt (and I agree with
you). But the believer is just as free of doubt.
