 | Maybe someone out there could assist us. We are trying to ascertain the arrival date in Australia of Lucy Wood nee Hardman She married Squire Camfort Wood in 1881 in Cheshire prior to that we think she had a daughter Lizzie, but have not been able to verify that. In 1883 Camfort Wood my wife's grandfather was born in the same place. Family folk lore says that Lucy came to Australia ahead of her husband and he was to follow. We can find no record of his death in UK or in Australia, or any record of Lucy or her children Camfort or Lizzie arriving in Australia Lucy remarried in Melbourne in 1912 to Thomas Jewitt and stated on the marriage certificate that she was widowed in 1890 and had 2 deceased and one living child. Thomas stated he was a bachelor. Lucy died in Hokonui NZ in 1916 and the death certificate indicates that she had two living offspring. Camfort then 32 and Nellie then 18. There is no record of Nellie's birth in the UK or Australia to Lucy Wood, but there is a record of the birth of a Nellie Wood to Victoria Wood in the year 1898, which would have been the right year for our Nellie. Nellie called herself a Jewitt and in fact cared for Thomas from 1916 - 1946, never marrying. Nellie herself died in 1986. We have searched records to no avail and are desperate for some guidance from those with much more experience than us Regards Mike and Jocelyn
