 | It sure seems that a bunch of us are being spoofed on the list somehow. Rest assured I, as well as the other "victims" here I'm sure, have never sent any messages as deplorable as those that have recently appeared. The question now is though, how did they get past the moderators? Perhaps the offensive messages are only showing up on the newsgroup servers at our ISPs and not being sent to the list through the normal moderated channels.
Any ideas what's going on and if there is something I should be doing on my end to make sure it doesn't happen again?

======================================= MODERATOR'S COMMENT: They get past the moderators because they forge moderator approval, which is laughably simple on USENET. If such things become out of hand, there are some things we can do to prevent them, but they involve considerable effort and trouble, so we try to just catch these things and issue cancel notices as needed - Mod.

 | I got two emails from that german usenet mirror earlier this morning. It's unfortunate to see that this prank was pulled off, but kind of reassuring that I am not the only one having the problem. ;-)

I guess this is the reason I've had 70+ posts of nonsense to my email account today?
I thought this was alt.freemasonry for a second :-)

 | I don't how it happened, but I sure hope it's finished. To find all that ugliness on the best newsgroup on the net was a horrible experience. I believe our moderators do a superb job of moderating this NG, so I most certainly don't place any blame on them. But I sure hope I've seen my last dead baby "joke". I haven't been that disgusted in a long time. And to find it the very day after I celebrated the birth of the Savior!
