 | Question: Given that a US president appoints many officials soon after his swearing in, including many an official in the intelligence business, to what level can a US president absolve himself of erroneous policy on poor intelligence?
Based on your posts, you seem to think the president and his administration, including his hand-picked intelligence officials, are blame free. How do you defend such a position M. Gumby?
Question: For how many months did the US build invasion forces in the Middle East, use spy satellites, get reports from weapons inspectors in Iraq and still come up with a dead wrong conclusion regarding WMD in Iraq? How would you, M. Gumby, suggest improvements to avoid future, costly embarrasments?
Nicolas Bourbaki.

N.B. asked a serious question:

Somebody's looking like a total fool but it aint N.B.
Nicholas asked a very pertinent question, but all Rosardo wants to do is ridicule N.B. and tell on him to the moderators.
The greatest intelligence community in the world, the benefit of the Weapons Inspectors' first hand experiences and they (the neocons) get it absolutely DEAD WRONG. One would have to be a fool to believe that it was just a bad mistake. But then, that's what Karl Rove is for; to find the fools and get them working for the neo-cons.
Truly amazing that the most consequential decisions made for this country and world are not held to the same standards to which we hold our everyday humdrum lives.
Were it just one or two instances of bad judgement, were it just a couple of controversial agenda items, were it just a matter of symantics once in a while, then we (neo con opponents) just might have to sit back and wonder if we weren't reading the situation wrong; maybe there's a plan that we just don't see yet.
But it's not just a few isolated incidences. It is not just a couple controversial bills pushed through the congress, it is not just symantics and two ways to the same good benefit.
Bush and the neo con power structure have been ambitiously and systematically attacking the fundamental principles of this nation and democracy. The Bush family history of shady deals with shady people and questionable stock sales; the history of Cheney with Halliburton and Bush with Ken Lay, the questionable involvement of Neil Bush with the Lincoln Savings and Loan collapse, the election controversy in Florida with Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris, Spectrum7, Arbusto, Harken; no WMD, AbuGhraib, Chalabi, BinLaden still free, preferential treatment - TexANG/AWOL, permanent tax breaks for the wealthy, environmental record... the list is endless;
These things (and more) make it impossible to offer the benefit of the doubt. Only a fool gets burned a third and fourth and fifth time and still doesn't learn that fire will hurt them.
However, Rosardo, you are certainly welcome to stick your hand in the fire again, don't take my word for it that it's going to hurt.
