 | Is there really a vast right wing conspiracy?
The answer is yes, and that is one of the main reasons our
intelligence agencies have been so useless!
In the past, the bulk of military intelligence work was to gather
information about potential threats from abroad.
During WWII, we were forced to combat Nazi propaganda with our own,
and the US Information Agency was born. Over the years this agency has
been used to offset the effects of Communist propaganda as well. A
small part of our intelligence resources was used for that purpose.
For the past couple of decades all this has changed! The Far right
members of our government have learned that a democracy can be bent
any way one wants simply by controlling the media! Covert services
have found most of their resources squandered on "getting the dirt" on
political enemies, and in many cases making things up!
More and more our broadcast and print media has been controlled by
fewer and fewer people. Today, the extreme right controls almost all
of the media.
Some people have tried to offset this by posting the truth on the
Internet, but again the far right has learned some dirty tricks.
Right wing groups have learned that a couple of full time paid
employees can create hundreds of fake user names each, and the fake
users can drown out anyone posting pesky truths or facts. Slander has
often been a favorite tool, since fake user names cannot be traced,
sued or ever made to pay for their slanderous words.
As more and more convert resources have been shifted to controlling
all we see and hear, real terrorists are free to plan and act against
us.
The most harmful thing is the simple truth that democracy is an
impossible dream without a free and unbiased media. The people, no
matter how well intentioned, are still forced to vote based and what
they see and hear. If the media lies, democracy becomes a dream rather
then a reality!
One such example is Mr. Bush's service records. They clearly showed he
was often missing for month and even years, yet when the media ran the
story, the government made threats and demanded the media show the
"original" records rather then the copies. It was no surprise that
those records had gone missing! The military, which answers to the
President, claimed "the records were lost!" Without any originals to
be found, the media backed down, and a man who had broken laws that
would have put any other soldier in prison for years was allowed to
remain commander and Chief!
People were fired, not for lying; but rather they were fired for
daring to tell the truth!
When we censor the media we attack the very foundation of our
democracy. Voters need truth to base their votes on.
Never in US History has our way of life been so threatened as now! The
"patriotic act" threatens all of the Bill of Rights, and puts our
government under martial law forever!
The Control of the media is simply the gun, and the patriotic act the
bullet! Together they place all that our soldiers have fought and died
for in dire jeopardy.
The direction our nation is going is an insult to the many men and
woman who have sacrificed life and limb to defend our Bill of Rights
and our way of life! If we do not wake up soon, we may find it too
late, and democracy will simply be a "childish dream" that "never was!
