Mon, 04 Jan 2010 16:27:36 GMT A new study finds that despite the general belief, smacking can be beneficial for young children, helping them to grow into happier and more successful adults. Previous studies had concluded that physical discipline and smacking can lead to the development of behavioral problems such as aggressiveness in children. According to the study conducted in the Calvin College in Michigan, children smacked before the age of six are more likely to become teenagers who perform better at school. As teenagers, these children are more geared up for participating in volunteer work and going to university. Children who continued to be smacked into adolescence, however, were reported to present behavioral problems in the long run. These children were more likely to get involved in fights. Compared to their peers who had never been physically disciplined, these children were still more academically successful. "I think of spanking as a dangerous tool, but there are times when there is a job big enough for a dangerous tool. You just don't use it for all your jobs," said lead researcher Marjorie Gunnoe. Gunnoe continued to say that "If it's done judiciously by a parent who is normally affectionate and sensitive to their child, our society should not be up in arms about that. Parents should be trusted to distinguish this from a punch in the face." But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
