There is 1 PhD studentship available at the Image Processing Lab, Universitat de Valencia (Spain) on Computational Neuroscience and Machine Learning applied to Image Processing. For more information, please feel free to contact me or see the link: http://www.uv.es/vista/vistavalencia/people/phd_positions.html Regards! Jesus %%%%%%%%%%%% DETAILS: Institution: Image Processing Lab., Physics Department. Universitat de Valencia (Spain) Position: We offer a FOUR YEAR PhD student position (2+2 years: fellowship + contract) within the spanish Research Personnel Training Program associated to a research project funded by the spanish National Science Foundation in the Image Processing area. Subject: Computational Neuroscience in Image Processing. Physical structure of natural scenes giving rise to photographic images lead to particular statistical properties of images. Modeling these statistical features (e.g. manifold learning) is key in (1) image processing applications such as coding, pattern recognition, restoration, and (2) understanding the behavior of mechanisms of visual information processing in biological systems. For more information, check our web site: http://www.uv.es/vista/vistavalencia The work implies theoretical modeling and numerical experiments on image processing applications and neuroscience data. The student will join a dynamic team of 4 young doctors, 4 PhD students, and 1 PostDoc. The team cooperates with several research groups at Spain and abroad. The approach to the subject is multidisciplinary involving machine learning, computational neuroscience, image processing and machine vision . Requirements: The applicants should have a bachelor degree on one of the following areas Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. Applicants should also have a strong interest in vision and its statistical bases, and programming experience (e.g. Matlab, C). Benefits: * Salary: approx. 1100 euros/month (standard salary of PhD young researcher at the spanish R+D system) * Health insurance. * Fees for the PhD or master program * Travel funds to attend conferences and to carry out stays (2-3 months/year) at research centres abroad. DEADLINES and selection process: * According to the Spanish Science Foundation, the application period will be open in january 2010. Please check the web site of Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion: http://web.micinn.es * Application period will last for 15 days after openning. * Application is simple: you have to enter your personal data, the project data (I will provide them to you) and your updated CV (pdf version). Please contact me if you have troubles with the forms in spanish. * According to the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion, requirements and forms will be similar to the ones in the last call for applications, which can be checked here: http://web.micinn.es/contenido.asp?menu1=1&menu2=1&dir=03_Plan_IDI/00- LIAs/00@LIARRHH/00-Formacion/00-FPI * Once the application period is over, your application is first evaluated by the Ministerio and then by our group. * The selected applicant will be notified by june-july 2010. * The applicant will join the team by august 2010.
