holder of some sort. Our mother told us sometime ago that she thought it belonged to her great grandmother which would place it somewhere in the 1800's. It measures 3" tall by 2 1/4 " wide, exclusive of the ring and chain. Opened up it measures 4 1/2" across. The purple colored stones are gorgeous in the sunlight and give off a lot of sparkle. There is a pencil that still has some lead in it, along with the pencil holder that serves as the hinge. On the right side of the opened object is a wood-like veneer of some kind. We really can't tell what it's made of. There is a mirror that isn't in the greatest of shape, but there are no cracks, but there is some staining. We had an offer of $100.00 some years ago from someone who saw it with a lot of other old jewelry, but that person didn't provide any info on what it was or how old it might be. We are not sure of the material it's made of or if the stones are real. Can someone help us ID this piece and have any insight as to it's value? Thanks very much for looking.
