A Day of Many Mares

So, I have not ridden in about two weeks due to footing, weather, and
work. A killer combo! My grading is in good order and my house better
than usual, as the silver lining. :-)

Anyhow, today was pretty nice out, low 30s, so I decided to get the
girls out. All of them.

I started with Dancer since she was closest to the gate. We did a
bunch of walk work, then did some trot work focusing on giving me a
nice, proper bend and staying steady in my hand. In spite of having a
lot of time off, she was quite good. We had two expressive moments,
but neither was a big deal and she went right back to work after her
little "whee' moments.

Then I went on to Baby, who was quite naughty the last two times she
had some time off and then was ridden--she almost bucked me off the
first time she was worked after we got back from Belize, then was
good, then had some time off and was very naughty for Carl, then good,
then time off with his new job sucking up his time (it will smooth out
and riding will fit in, but right now he is on the learning curve). I
thought she might be naughty, and indeed she humped up her back on the
way to the ring, but a growl and boot in the ribs sorted it out just
fine. We did mostly walk and trot, staying straight (which is her
issue, as she wants to go quite crooked), and then we did a wee canter
each way and were done.

Belles was a very good girl, just hacking the fields and a short trot
workout in the ring. Rain was an ape during her longe line work out,
and we finished up with Moonlight who was excellent.

Tomorrow I have a very long day at work, so if I am lucky I will get a
chance to longe Rain after work and before dark.

And then of course we are supposed to have a big snow storm. eyes>
