Basically they assert that corn oil is not a good source of fat for your horse as it "promotes chronic inflammation." They say the practice of using corn oil for bloom and weight gain should be rethought as corn oil contains "about 70% omega 6 fatty acids and virtually no omega 3 fatty acids." Omega 6s are considered pro-inflammatory while Omega 3s are considered anti-inflammatory. "Too many Omega 6s in the diet puts your horse's body in a state of chronic inflammation, lending him to degenerative health conditions." It goes on to say that grain is also high in Omega 6s causing more imbalance. They recommend using a fat source like flax seed and fish oil as they have higher levesl of Omega 3s. Tara Other posts:
