So, no single-legs, double-legs, heel picks, assisted sweeps, anything like that. The exceptions are supposed to be if the leg grab is a follow-on from a previous technique, or if your opponent has cross-gripped over your back (say, left hand holds the sleeve conventionally, right hand grabbing judogi on the same shoulder). According to the head ref, the follow-on exception is being interpreted locally as you have to have already got the opponent largely off-balance. Or in other words, if you didn't need the hand to grab the leg to complete, you can grab it if you want. What I saw was, grab the other guys leg during tachi-waza for any reason, you get called. The penalty is hansoku-maki, meaning disqualification from that match. I hate the new rule. It eliminates a whole range of classical judo techniques for the purpose of supposedly upholding the spirit of judo, but in reality it's just meant to shut down wrestlers. The penalty is also way too severe. Everyone who won a match based on this penalty was unhappy to win that way. Just venting. Neil Other posts:
